McNally worked as the private canvasser for his father’s Palm Beach law firm whose major clientele base was made of the high and mighty of the exclusive Florida Community. According to many readers he was one of the funniest characters that Sanders Laurence ever used. One of the most notable characters he helped brought out was ARCHBALD ARCHY MCNALLY who also happened to be the last characters he used. As a matter of facts, he was responsible for the several series characters with most of them being the private investigators. Sander went on to write three other procedurals that featured Delaney. Later in 1973, Delaney featured in The First Deadly Sin, which was also later filmed in 1980, where Frank Sinatra being the Delaney. It also resulted into a captivating movie, and thereafter, a stream of several novels that are approximated to be at least thirty, and majority of those books featured among the bestseller lists. Never before have I enjoyed reading such descriptive narratives that really do paint a full picture in my head of the life Im absorbing through words. Sanders’ ability to use foreign language words now and then is a treat, as they usually add some humor as well his ability to spend time describing Archy’s attire and menu. Lawrence Sanders, is extremely well acclaimed within the mystery genre having other award winning series – Commandment and Timothy Cone books – to his resume. In fact, he eats too much, drinks to much, and always seems to get in trouble with the wrong sort of gal, much to the dismay of his unofficial girlfriend Connie Garcia. Archy loves wine, women, and song–not necessarily in that order. These “discreet inquiries” allow you to lose track of time and imagine the life of dashing about in his red Miata, hanging out at the Pelican Club and in his spare time solving sensitive cases for his father’s richer-than-God clients down in Palm Beach, Florida.
